  • What a truly tremendous and impactful image. The very serious and strong stare of this big cat is riveting, and the shallow depth-of-field and gorgeous bokeh allows him stand out as the singular focus. Although it works wonderfully as a black-and-white image, I'm sure this image would be just as powerful in color. Absolutely stunning image. Nicely done and congratulations! ~ illona

  • Wow! Thank you very much choosing this photo! Took this photo of our Norwegian Forestcat Esbjerg’s Haribo during a walk in our garden in november 2012. Hi was sitting elevated on the bridge by the pond and endured self-confident the photo-shooting. One of my first picture with Nikon D800E/ Nikkor 24-120 mm Susanne Wunn, Sonsbeck/Germany

  • This picture was taken at a december morning in germany. I used my Nikon D750 with 300mm Nikkor. My name is Melanka Helms and I normally focus on Dogs and Horses. But to this beauty, belonging to a friend, I couldn´t say no. If you´re interested to see more of my work, I´d be happy to see you on my website or to hear from you via email or facebook.

  • This is such a sweet image and the low angle gives it an even more intimate feeling. The softness and shallow depth of field places the focus squarely on the relaxed cat; its white coat in contrast to the green allows the cat to stand out, and its relaxed stare at the camera makes us feel as though we are right there. Nicely done! ~ illona

  • Thank you Illona! I appreciate your kind words. My name is Owen Kingsley Lane, I am a portrait photographer from Virginia. This is my cat’s favorite little tree to lay under, I actually have a similar shot when he was sleeping right before this shot. I was using my Leica M8U and Noctilux 50mm f/0.95.

  • What an absolutely interesting image. The distortion created by the wide-angle lens offers some unique lines and angles, drawing the viewer in, and the bright surroundings allow the black cat to stand out. Nicely done! ~ illona

  • This is a wonderful image. The shallow depth of field keeps the image simple and focused on the cat, leaving us to wonder what he is so focused on himself. Nicely done! ~ illona

  • Thank you for your comment and for the finalist position. I took this picture with a canon 5d2 and a 24-105 lens at 105. Then I used DxO to convert the picture in black and white.
