  • This is a beautiful and fascinating image, you have brought us an immense landscape with an astonishing scale. The figure on the hilltop (slag?) connects with the sky and anchors my eye, holding me back from the infinite distance of the sea’s horizon. The red roof counters the green fields so subtly, the white clad bales punctuate the many lines. It is a perfectly composed photograph and the scene you have framed has been honoured. You win this round congratulations!

  • Thank you for the nice comments, fantastic that my picture from last year trip to Iceland won the competition. The landscape there are very photogenic. The picture is taken with a Phantom 4 drone and its post processed in Lightroom where i adjusted the colors and clarity.

  • A lovely eye pleasing minimal view over these sand dunes where the slanting early light creates those wonderful curves and contrast. Well done, great telephoto shot.

  • The reflection, the contrast, the composition, the square, the lines. A wonderful escape. This is quite simply beautiful.

  • This is very pleasing as I love this image; it having originated from the most unprepossessing landscape. This was a flooded section of nearby Delamere Forest on a very gloomy day but I was attracted by the stand of silver birch trees on the far side. I was walking the dog at the time and only had my Fujifilm XE1 with 35mm lens on so I did have to crop to isolate the trees. Post processing consisted of slight desaturation, lifting the whites and adding a vignette to draw the eye in.

  • You have captured the striking textures of the snow covered trees within this almost monochrome aerial view where the road makes a striking diagonal divide and the car fixes my gaze. The (perhaps accidental) blur adds to the composition and accentuates that texture and those lines. Lovely.

  • One of the marvels of modern digital photography is the possibility to catch the stars with very high ISO settings which even recently were unthinkable. This is an amazing place where the cool night colours of this extraordinary geological mixture match the night sky and milky way beautifully. You have mastered the technique and coupled that with a striking panoramic composition. Well done.

  • The scene is stunning and the colour palette quite beautiful. I feel though that with these cloudy conditions you could have managed the flair from the sun better. The clouds move around and at some point would mask the sun a little more, allowing you to get the shot with less glare. Great effort that you could improve upon for next time :-).

  • Once again we see that what we call bad weather can reduce detail and colour, leaving us with just the most basic tones, rendering a scene to simple beauty, isolating a subject and reducing detail to a minimum. Next time you cancel a picnic due to “bad“ weather go get your camera kit!

  • Lovely roadside photograph with hard contrast and saturated colour. This could have climbed considerably higher if the telegraph pole wasn’t so agonizingly close to the edge of the frame. A little space around that pole would have brought comfort to this view, instead it is distracting and creates unwanted awkwardness. Small details like this make the difference between a nice photo and a beautiful photo. Get back out there and study your composition, use a tripod and leave some breathing space around your subject matter. You have a good eye, in this case it just needs a slight tweek. :-)
