  • Mario Cea: Thank you very much for this new award. It is a complex photograph to be made by having several different combinations of light (continuous artificial light, flash light and natural light) and that also runs during the night in complete darkness. Canon EOS 5D Mark III - Canon 100-400mm - Flash and trigger Pixel - Tripod and ball head Benro

  • This is an amazing photograph! We are right in there crouching down fearfully in the grasses with that gorilla charging us down. It is, and he is so powerful. How you managed to frame this so well under those circumstances shows enormous courage too. 

  • Two of the grizzly shots were hard to separate this time, this one just squeezing in before the other thanks to the colourful flying caviar. Great action, well done.

  • Ph. Marco Poggioni. Thank you for the Marks of Excellence. Kurile Lake is a large lake in the south of Kamchatka, a remote region in the east of Russia. At the end of summer a great amount of sockeye salmons reaches the lake to lay their eggs up the numerous streams that flow into the lake. Dozens of bears await the arrival of the salmons along the banks of the lake, and begin a real slaughter. Nikon D3S with Nikon 200-400mm f4 lens.

  • This is a stunning, crispy clear shot, where the bears’ eye contact is quite fearsome. Wonderful and wild, well done.

  • Ph. Marco Poggioni. The picture was shot along the shore of the Kurile Lake in Kamchatka. Fights between bears are frequent: young males face each other and blood is almost never spread. However, the clashes are impressive, also because there is no hide and the bears are only a few meters from the photographer. Nikon D3S with Nikon 200-400mm f4 lens.

  • It is the story that takes you through, and a pretty sad story too. You have captured the hopelessness of this situation and the defeated look on the deer’s face. When will we ever learn ?

  • Thank you very much for the Mark Of Excellence ! I'm honored to be among the finalists. I have been shooting wildlife for about 5 years. My current set up is the Canon 7D Mark ll with the Canon 100-400 telephoto version II and the 1.4 Canon teleconverter. I use Picassa for post processing and just used a touch of contrast and sharpening for this photo. This buck will be OK once he sheds his antlers. The wildlife preserve is aware of this problem but continues to stake and twine large areas of native plants to protect them from invasive plant species.

  • This is a great photo, so sharp, with a clever depth of field. It is a rare and fierce action shot of this (probably) territorial fox fight.

  • This is clever, amusing, well composed… You chose a nice short focus and vertical frame to emphasise the length of this caterpillar train. It is a stand-out and endearing shot, well done.

  • What a wonderful, sweet, relaxed, family atmosphere here, in a beautiful natural setting too. Adorable shot, well done.
