  • A beautiful scene with gorgeous colors will always grab the viewer’s attention but what will hold the viewer’s eye? In this image the photographer employs a slow shutter to show the passing of time which adds another dimension. The color in the passing boat also helps energize the composition. Lens distortion seen in the vertical edges of the buildings seems to work with the motion blur in this case, but otherwise might detract from the illusion.

  • Sky trails (drone trails) in this image are very intriguing and help create a wonderful abstract image that stands out as unique.

  • It’s clear that the red flowers in this image are fixed but somehow they float up like a murmuration of warbler birds in flight. The composition succeeds because of the repetition of shape of the flowers in the ground (sand bags?) and also in the brick work. Beautiful shot!

  • The installation called 'Wave and Weeping Window' is a part of the astonishing 'Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red' which was created at the Tower of London in 2014. This part was retained for the public and has toured various parts of the UK. Liverpool's St.Georges Hall made a stunning backdrop for the installation but the challenge was to do justice to such a beautiful piece of art in a photograph. I hope I managed to do that. For those interested in such things, I used a Nikon D800 with 24-70 lens at 70mm.

  • Wonderful capture here by the photographer and the softness of the image is overlooked because it works with the nighttime scene and the glow of the bright street lights. The repetition of patterns in the lights, benches, fences, street, and trees all works very well together.

  • The creative approach to this image must be admired, though it is a bit creepy, and the large amount of shadow and dark tones used help the effect. Interestingly the grabbing hand is the light part and the tram the dark which is an interesting role reversal.

  • My name Stefan Scherf and I'm a photographer living in Wuppertal, Germany. The picture is titled "Catch the train" and it's a part of my longtime project HOMETOWN. What you see is a hand grabbing a train of the "Wuppertaler Schwebebahn", the famous suspension railway here in Wuppertal. I used an Olympus OM-D E-M5 with M.ZUIKO 17mm at f/1.8, ISO1600.

  • Reflection in a puddle is an often-used photo technique but this image stands above others for a few reasons. First of all, it’s a really big puddle that fills and divides the frame. Secondly the light divides the image once again into quarters. Thirdly the people on left in shadow greatly add to the impact of the image even if they aren’t immediately noticeable.

  • This is a busy, almost messy image, but one that’s very intriguing and deserving of merit. Color harmony is the first in to this image, then the shape and placement of the architectural flower which works well with the square framing. The blur on the left adds another visual lawyer of complexity and interest, and after taking all that in the eye can trace the patterns of the buoys and boats and then back up to the Ferris wheel. And since the image held our attention that much it’s clear it succeeds.

  • I am glad my photo caught your attention. My name is Jocelyn Kahawai and I live in Cairns, Australia. The 'flower architecture' is the ArtScience museum in Singapore. The architect, Moshie Safadie based his design on the lotus flower. I loved this early morning view with the soft misty light and sense of calm. My camera is the Leica Q (and was very new when I took this shot). It has a 28mm fixed lens and I had it wide open at f1.7. I used Lightroom to process it, really only requiring slight cropping to best frame the image.

  • This image should make a very nice postcard. The tones used do not appear natural but help bring out a warm historical view to the scene.

  • Where are these two ‘leaning towers’? Are they really leaning or could this be a matter of wide angle perspective? Whatever the answer is to those questions, the buildings seem almost animated and this intrigue helps the image which is also well composed and technically executed.

  • The photographer of this image deserves recognition for their creative approach to the use of space in this image. A composition with all the weight on one side could seem imbalanced or want to turn over in the viewer’s mind, but this succeeds. The wispy lined clouds on the top left work with the lines and patterns in the building and help the image.
