  • A good city photo could make one wish for a vacation, a great photo will take you there and let you feel like you were along on that journey and know what it was like to be there. This photo does just that! Sometimes a light touch in post can better convey a palpable sense of realness, which clearly works in this image. It is also well composed and technically executed. Congrats to the photographer for the wining image!

  • The varied tones and repeating shapes in this photo create a visually compelling image that holds one’s attention. This photo could be a text book example of how to employ gestalt. Well done!

  • I made this photograph in 1971 from the window of a friend's apartment near the Place de République in Paris. I was using only a Super Cambo 4x5 view camera at the time, working on a project to capture scenes of the Marais, old Jewish quarter, before a lot of it was demolished to make way for the Centre Pompidou and other questionable "improvements" to the neighborhood. I remember that I removed the rear element of the lens to increase the focal length and create the soft focus around the edges of the image. -- Bill Bullard

  • We really enjoyed this image and could not help but think all three figures represent the same character but just in different stages of life. Images that can create wonder and inspire the imagination like this are winners! Wonderful capture!

  • I made this photograph in 2015 at the Musée Rodin in Paris using a Leica Q. This image part of a series of museum photographs in which the displayed work seems to be observing and responding to the observers. -- Bill Bullard

  • Sometimes you recognize an image as being great straight away, but not be able to put your finger on exactly why without deeper study. There is something wonderful and yet fragile about the old man whose back is toward us. How he holds onto the rail with his hands behind his back is a subtle clue to his fragility, but it also pins the composition together. The triangle of the hands and arms inverts and repeats with the arms and head, and similar triangles form between the heads of the three people in the street and also between the statue and the face on the poster and that of the old man, etc. This composition really works well. Excellent job!

  • Thank you for the Mark Of Excellence and for your feedback, I enjoyed it! My name is Denis Malciu and I'm from Romania. The picture was taken in Bucharest, with my Sony A7s and a Sony Sonnar 35mm f2.8 lens. I edited the raw file in Adobe Camera Raw and I also applied a VSCO filter.

  • The ghost like quality of the twin towers in the mist plays well with the motion blur at the bottom of the image. The building and tree on the left don’t really add to the image but kind of ends up working anyway because of the blue lines which harmonize with the blue on the right side.

  • The dark tones and simple silhouetted figure streamline and focus the emotive appeal of this image. We applaud the different approach used here by the photographer.

  • My name is Percy Lundstrøm. I am a family man, living in Aarhus, the second largest city in Denmark. I will like to thank the judge, for the nomination off my picture. I am very honored, to be among the 10 selected. I took this photo with my Nikon D7100, Sigma 150-500 (f/8 - 1/1250 - Iso 100) The picture was taken in a wonderful sunset. The stone figure is hanging on a wall, she is less than 1 m. high, and she is hanging there, and looks a little thoughtful to me. I really love, being the man behind my camera, seeing different kind off things around me, and capture these moments whit my camera. Once again, thank you very much :-)

  • Does the red in this image become double extra red when juxtaposed to all the blue light? The energy created by the vibration from these colors somehow is subdued and held in check by the shapes in the composition. Very intriguing!

  • So, I'm Mike- a 26 year old, living in Guildford near London, UK. This photograph of the London Eye was taken just before Christmas 2015, using a Sony A58 with a Tamron 10-24mm wide angle lens. In terms of post processing, I attempted to correct some of the distortion around the edges resulting from the use of the wide angle lens, along with increasing the vibrancy of the colours a little.

  • It’s not a new image exactly to see the players at the beach in the water, but the timing to catch the shot with the ball and players all in the right spot and not overlapping, and the overall execution of this image is really well done. This image reminds us of the good things and makes us happy, thank you!

  • Hi, my name is Tommaso and this is Rio de Janeiro this April. This is one of the last shot of my OMD EM5 used with the zuiko 17MM. The pic is postprocessed in lightroom. The camera actually died killed by a big wave in the process of taking those pictures.. at least she died capturing something beautiful :)

  • This image has a very strong cinematic quality to it that makes it very intriguing. By using the word ‘cinematic’, we mean of course the quality of the lighting but also that there must be a whole story behind this scene. Compositionally this image works well and that it also captivates the imagination makes it a winner. Great Job!
