  • We really like this photo of two water lilies. Not overly processed and well composed and executed, make this the winner of this I-Shot-It Flower competition.

  • Image by Peter Hewitt (freelance, fine art, landscape photographer). The composition of these two Hardy Waterlilies (Nymphaea 'David') was created right after a rain shower at the summer Waterlily Display, Longwood Gardens, Kennett Square, PA. The equipment and exposure settings used were: Canon 5D Mark II camera, EF 180mm f/3.5L Macro USM lens, exposed for 1/4 sec. at f/22 using a 180mm focal length. Minimal post processing was done using only Lightroom for the conversion of the RAW image into a TIFF, with typical adjustments needed on a 'neutral' RAW image for sharpening, exposure, contrast, saturation, highlights and color. Shooting flowers on rainy, overcast days or in open shade naturally brings out great color saturation. The water drops also help to bring interest and depth to the plants.

  • Thank you to the judges for this recognition! My name is Mike from Lancaster County, PA. The photo was taken at dusk early in the Fall on my Nikon D5100. The only post-processing done was to crop out a portion of another lily in the upper right. We see these moths for a few nights a year and every time I think to run and grab my camera it is too late! One night I was fortunate enough to have my camera in hand for other purposes and the opportunity arose to take this shot. I am pleased that you like it.

  • This is the first time I mustered courage to participate in a photography contest. Thank you for the encouragement and the "Mark of Excellence" honor! I'm Amirtha Raman, a photography and an outdoor enthusiast. I took this photograph at the Tulip Festival in Skagit Valley, Washington. When you are surrounded by miles of beautiful flowers, it becomes very hard to decide which part of the field or activity is more important than the other. I wanted to capture all the fun in the atmosphere but the only challenge was that people had started crowding. So, I just sat on the field, keeping level with the flowers and shot the sky. Glad it turned out to be likeable! Shot with Canon EOS Rebel T1i with 18-55mm lens https://500px.com/amirtharaman

  • We like the contrast of the big grey wall which comes loaded with history and meaning - and then there is new life. The yellow flowers could symbolise hope and a possible new beginning.

  • This is such a fresh and healthy appearing white flower! The dark background makes it stand out well and the green adds to its beauty.

  • Thank you for the recognition. I am an amateur and the photo was taken about 1.5 hours before sunset. It is the flower of a dogwood tree (the state tree of Missouri). The camera used was a Canon OES Rebel T3i set to macro using a Canon EFS 17-55mm lens. The settings were: f/5.6, 1/500 sec, ISO-100, and no flash.

  • This is a good example for a well executed black and white photo of a flower. Great contact and motion.

  • This unusual capture of a flower we like for different reasons. It is abstract, almost not recognisable as a flower, and it has a psychedelic feel to it. This comes partially because of its blurriness and no focal point at all.

  • I am very pleased to see my photograph receive a mark of excellence. Thank you very much for this award. My name is Alexandre Machado, born in Rio de Janeiro, but living in Copenhagen. I am a hobby photographer who likes to experiment and challenge my skills in search of a different image or expression. This image is a result a my blur experiments with flowers. Here a dried Allium flower, photographed very closely with a macro lens. It was taken with my Nikon D3X and my 28 years old lens Nikkor AF 55 2,8.
