  • Beautiful lighting and the dark background really show off the contrasting colours of the black, milk and white chocolates. Focus is perfect creating amazing textures on the broken and the melted chocolate. Great shot and worthy winner of this round. Well done.

  • Hi, I have broken an unhappy 41 year history of losing competitions so I am delighted to have won. It was shot on a Phase One camera using flash and enormous slabs of chocolate. I photographed this as a series of test shots exploring texture and tone. Thank you for making this shot the winner... it put me off eating chocolate for a long time! Howard Shooter

  • A second showing for this fine minimalist shot with a clever graphical composition and nice colour contrast. Almost made it this time!

  • My name is Amy Nichols and I took this shot using natural light on an over cast day here in my dining room. This was one of my very first food shots and it sparked my love of Food Photography. I took this shot with a Nikon D3000. Thank you so much for the Mark Of Excellence!

  • A strong contender here, a nice original macro shot which gives these beans another dimension. The black and white works well too for such a colourful subject.

  • My name is Sue Foll. I am a professional photographer working in London. I make a point of posting a photograph every day on the Blipfoto website http://www.blipfoto.com/POD2008. I may have been unable to leave the house this day and resorted to photographing what was in my fridge. The picture was taken on a Canon 5D Mk2, using a 50mm f2.5 macro lens. I would have played around with the contrast a little after converting the file to black and white, plus I may have deployed a little dodging and burning.

  • Lovely composition and food. The peanut sauce has all the space it needs, the chilli and coriander really setting each other off. Lovely mouth watering shot ☺

  • Hello and thanks so much for the Mark of Excellence! I'm a food blogger and have been steadily working on improving my shooting skills over the course of the last year. This particular shot is of some carrot soup. After having posted the recipe with some very poor photos, I made up a batch of the soup for lunch one afternoon. My kitchen was having a great natural light day, so I decided to reshoot and the results were my absolute favorite to date.

  • Once again the artichoke makes it through. These are very photogenic vegetables with interesting shapes and colours. You have portrayed them beautifully here.

  • Hi, thanks for choosing my shots as the winner and one of the runner up images. I'm really delighted. This shot was taken as part of a series of test shots exploring forms and textures. The artichokes were so beautiful they practically photographed themselves.

  • I have been lost in this photo for ages, one can look on and on, attention jumping from one eye to another. It is a well spotted shot with the darker calamar creating the balance.

  • My name is Nimrod Genisher. I am a professional photographer based in Israel. Photography plays an inseparable part of my life, of which food photography holds my greatest passion. There is this something with the textures, the colors and the scents of food that draws me into this occupation over and over again. I took this image while photographing for a special article about the "Dallal", a traditional auction held in the early morning, at the Fisherman's Market of the Kishon Port, in Haifa, Israel. I joined a dear friend of mine - who is also a wonderful talented chef - for a glimpse at this hidden gem. I love how this spontaneous heap of Octopuses and Squids, ended up delightfully lying next to each other in a graphic and artistic way. For this image I used a Canon 5D mk III with a 24-70mm f/2.8 II L lens. I invite you to visit my website and follow me on facebook: www.facebook.com/NimrodGenisherPhotography

  • This is nearly really nice. Your photography techniques are fine, your choice of food too, even the flour on the board is clever. The result is just lacking a little something, it looks a bit too contrived.

  • This is refreshing and the story is fun. The combination of two photos is a nice idea and the resulting panorama format is pleasing. You could probably improve on this for the next round…

  • Here is a feel of the real. I really have the impression that I’m about to pick up this plate in this café. Clever use of a short depth of field and the waitress in the background make this picture.

  • I live in Madison, Alabama and consider myself a photographer of culture. And food is most certainly a big part of each people's culture. This picture was taken at a Waffle House in Madison, Alabama with a Sony NEX-5T and the Zeiss Touit 12mm/2.8. I waited until the waitress was in the picture and fired off five or six shots. A few of them show her reaching over to serve the plate to my son - this picture was the best of the series. I was aiming for a shot like this from the beginning, but it was lucky coincidence that my plate arrived first and I had time to arrange it and find the right angle for the camera. The Touit-lens has a phenomenal close-up focusing distance - I purposely bought it for exactly those kind of pictures. I carry my NEX-5T with me whenever I go somewhere - you never know what possibly interesting picture you might encounter.
