  • For me this was one of only a very select few this competition that showed any interesting light. Hopefully other participants in this competition can try and see how using interesting light to shape an image really works, backlighting especially can be effective in most situations, nice image.

  • Thank you for selecting my photo as the winner of this competition. This photo was taken when I was on a mountain bike ride and I took along my compact Canon G12. As we began the last ascent I noticed the light streaming through the trees. I stopped and waited for my husband to reach this spot to capture this image.

  • I like this as it shows depth, context and scale, however like most of this months images, I think would really benefit from shooting at a different time of day when the light creates more mood.

  • Good sense of action and scale makes this work well, he appears to really be flying, nice shot.

  • Nice action panning shot, good sense of speed is created, maybe a little more room in front of the horses to leave 'action space' and not crop the left too tight either, cropping the feet off. Good work to get the subject nice and sharp, obviously a finely tuned panning shooter.

  • Reflections always work, so good effort at creating this image, using the shaft of light to your advantage, colours compliment also with hints of pink and blue, so good work.

  • Thanks very much for this! There were many great photo's entered. My name is James Parkhill and this image was captured during an annual ice show in rural Ontario, Canada. The show is one of Canada's oldest and longest running, nearly 70 years. The 2 hour performance is all volunteer. Equipment used; Nikon D300 and 70-200 lens. Lighting varies and skaters move very, very fast so it's a tricky shoot. Fast shutter speeds and careful metering. Lots of fun to shoot!

  • Nice capture of Polo, have the competitors, the ball and the action midway, just would prefer not so tight a crop personally. Good work.
