  • Here is food at its best, the centre of attraction, being eagerly shared amongst friends and making a joyful social occasion ( in the French evening sun?)... The high angle makes this a real life experience, the action in all those hands make me hungry, I want some, and mmm is that a Burgundy? The composition is clever with no wasted space, the picture is busy but not cluttered, it is refreshing and amusing, an everyday experience we have all enjoyed. This round’s winner, congratulations et bon appétit !

  • Thank you for the award and for the comment you made on the photo. This picture was taken this summer in Toulouse (France) from the top of a building. There was a restaurant with this nice table directly below and I took the picture. The camera used is a Canon 5d mk2 and the lens is a zoom 70-300 at 300mm. Merci beaucoup !

  • This is a beautiful warm image. The composition is nicely balanced, the lighting really effective. The oddly empty glass and untouched toast make one want to wait patiently in anticipation of what is soon to come. But it is the sharp focus, so carefully placed, and the very short depth of field, which make this outstanding, bringing a crunch to the crusty toast. Well done.

  • I was helping set the dinner table when I noticed this bottle lingering next to some slices of freshly toasted baguette, catching the light just right. This beautiful view was captured with a Canon EOS 6D and Zeiss Planar T 1.4/50 lens. The RAW file was post processed in Photoshop. I am honored to have my photo selected from so many other good pictures! Max Sokolov, Morgantown, WV.

  • There is so much excitement around this table, and no wonder ! It is somebody’s party and all that food needs eating. The choice of a slow exposure brings plenty movement and action whilst drawing attention to the sharp table of food. Black and white makes this a timeless shot, I like the excitement created by the high contrast but has too much detail not been lost in the dark zones ?

  • Here is a strong illustrative photograph. A market scene from S.E Asia, Cambodia maybe, or Vietnam (?) where dog figures at the high end of the meat ladder. Whatever your thoughts may be for canine dinners and noodles with poodles, this photograph presents the story pretty well. It is also a very nice travel shot.

  • Thank you for the Mark Of Excellence. This image was taken on a street market in Hanoi, during an amazing 3-week trip around Vietnam. For this picture I used my Fuji X100, shot in jpg, post processed in Lightroom.

  • A nice artistic approach to this theme and a beautiful combination of painting and photography. The pomegranate seed on the knife is the perfect final touch. Nice.

  • Well, a cholesterol delight of homemade fast food probably eaten (too quickly) while standing at the side table. You may love or hate this plateful but the photo is well composed and so real. It is almost a warning and certainly a statement from the carefree time of greed where we live. I love the mug’s message too which adds to the junk food theme. Well done !

  • Nice saturated colours and shapes make this a very sweet composition.

  • My name is Lorella Schoales I'm an art teacher and love to freelance some photography on the side. U can see more of my work on Lorella photography on fb and http://fineartamerica.com/announcementpaymentinformationrequired.html . This picture was taken during my daughters candy party and I thought what better way to capture a portrait of the "SWEETEST" person I know...I used the canon rebel t3i with a Tamron lens.. Post processing I increased the saturation just by a little, this pic didn't need much editing .

  • In the flame light of a pizza oven. Well done for this interesting, original and very tasty shot. Perhaps more focus on the pizza would have been better for this theme, holding the eye on the pizza rather than the fire.

  • This shot was taken at one of the inaugural events for a new mobile wood fired oven business owned by a friend. The oven is actually mounted in a custom built trailer. The oven's opening is relatively small, but the oven is a large dome inside and I wanted to catch the roundness and some of the dome, with the drama of the flames and the bubbling of the pizza toppings. I had to literally hold my camera inside the 1200 degree oven, but could do so for only a few seconds to avoid damaging it (or me). This left little time for focusing, so I had to rely heavily on my autofocus. The camera was my Nikon D700 with Nikkor 16mm Fisheye lens. I'm quite happy with the results and the photo is being used in promotional materials for the business! Thank you for the Mark of Excellence! Kimberly Herold, Alachua, FL.

  • Well it is not a photo of fine cuisine and I am sure all that grease will probably unsettle a lot of viewers. The tight crop is really effective and the sharp focus brings us right in there, into that very oily and unhealthy no greens snack. One cannot look at this and rest indifferent. Powerful shot, well done.

  • Thank you for recognizing my photo. After a good day of shooting, I had stopped for a bite to eat. When the food arrived at my table, it just looked irresistible. So I snapped a photo intent on it being one of those 'look how good my food is' cheesy shots. It just happened that the photo turned out pretty good. This was taken with my Nikon D5100.
