  • Beautiful warm colours, tones and shapes, the gas flame and the pot in the background all make this scene so real. An everyday subject from everybody's kitchen, beautifully composed and so simple. Great food shot and this round's worthy winner. Congratulations !

  • My name is James Markus from James Markus Photography, and Photomatter.com located in Michigan. What a wonderful surprise - thank you. Judge Duncan MacArthur's comments are spot on. It was about colour, tones, and shapes. It is "real", because that was my breakfast cooking there. I shot it in my kitchen. Camera was the Nikon D800 in manual mode. Lens was a manual focus 28mm Nikkor f2.8 ais. Royalty free licenses, products, and prints are available in my "Food" gallery... (See Link Below)...Thanks again!

  • This is great, a fruit and veg romance down on the beach. Nice lighting and developing, great imagination and such an original way to look at food. Brilliant, well done.

  • Red rock fish on ice. Once again it is the feel of the real which makes this a beautiful photograph. Nice composition keeps the viewer's attention on the image drawing our gaze back to the fish's eye. The well placed signs add interest and the fishmonger in the background brings action. Lovely market scene.

  • A sticky story which we have all experienced ! The nice red background really sets off the crumpet. Not only is this nicely artistic and very clever but it reminds us all of that time we dribbled honey all over our clothes. A carefully managed photograph which i imagine took a lot of time to get right.

  • This was taken with a Canon 5D Mark ii, in studio. I put Skewers through the waffle, loaded it with syrup, had my assistant flip it and there ya go! I think I went through a box of waffles till I got a shot I liked.

  • A magnificent palette of colours makes a beautiful shot ! I would love to have one of those hanging in my kitchen. The nice short focus brings depth and detail to the foreground chillies. I love the very busy composition, nice work.

  • A beautiful studio composition and lighting for this decorative and healthy food creation. I wonder if the depth of field isn't a tad short? Nice complimentary colours, high contrast and a sharp interesting contour make this image really stand out.

  • Thanks for the Mark of Excellence! This was taken hand-held with my Canon 5D Mk II + Canon 100mm f/2.8L macro lens. Shot in my kitchen in front of a window with a silver reflector opposite window, on a white plate with another white plate propped up for the background. The lighting was pretty poor and so I had to leave my aperture wide to properly expose it even with a high ISO; I don't really like how the top mushroom head is partly out of focus (would have been nice to stop down a little) but it was just an impromptu shoot in my kitchen, having fun. 1/80 sec, f/3.5, ISO 1250. Processed in LR4 and I also added a bit of texture in Photoshop CS5. Thanks again!

  • A beautiful scene which at first seems so sweet but then we wonder what this young chid is doing keeping this stall. Nice composition and focus on the boy make this a very illustrative document. Well spotted.

  • Strong graphical, one colour image, beautifully managed and photographed. A firm favourite for technique and artistic appeal, but it doesn't say "food" enough to win this competition. Fantastic shot.

  • Mini cherry tomatoes? Or a giant spoon? This is a powerful shot which has been carefully created. It is the green stalk which makes this. Great use of empty space and the light reflections bring a nice strong contrast to the tomatoes. Well done!
