  • what a stellar image. beautiful, clean, black and white conversion, clean, centered presentation, and technically perfect. the eye contact of the dog, combined with the tension in the tight mouth as a precursor to a bark, give this image loads of appeal. an instant fave. ~ illona

  • Thank you for picking my photo as the winning one! My name is Davor Manojlovic and I live in Zagreb, Croatia. I'm an automotive photographer but enjoy other types of photography also. This shot was taken on the street, I was actually shooting a cat that was beneath this window, didn't even notice the dog, and then he barked at me a couple of times allowing me to take this photo. I used a Sony A100 with a 50mm f/1.4 lens.

  • what an absolutely wonderful and emotive image. the black and white conversion makes it an even stronger image, allowing the viewer to focus on the lines, light and shadow, and suggested emotion/story within the frame of this image. nicely done! ~ illona

  • Thank you very much for selecting this image! My name is Ryan Smith, I live in Austin, Texas. This photo is of two of our five dogs. Our BadLittleRedDog (BLRD) was barking at something outside and Lisa "Left Ear" Lopez-Smith was considering joining in when I took this picture. This is one of the first photos I took with my Fujifilm X100s. 6400 iso, f2, 1/500, JPEG, monochrome w/ red filter setting. So many great photos. Thanks!

  • shake-shots are a dim a dozen ... everyone who shoots dogs shoots them. but once in a while one truly stands out, and this is one of the standouts. the backlighting catching all of the droplets, the tight crop/close quarters, beautiful management of color, light and shadow, and wonderful detail all work to make this image truly special. nicely done! ~ illona

  • Thank you for choosing this photo of my dog, Chopper. We live in WA state and he is a rescue dog that I adopted from our local Humane Society 11 years ago. This was a rare shot of him, as he does not like his picture taken at all... so capturing him, and especially this shot was a complete stroke of luck. Shot with Nikon D700/50mm 1/4 lens.

  • Many thanks for this "Mark Of Excellence"! My name is Dieter and my home is south of Frankfurt in Germany there also this picture was taken in January this year. My wonderful two hunting dogs, a short-haired Weimaraner and an English Springer Spaniel, need plenty of exercise and want to play a lot. This is good for the dogs and also good for me. It was my intention to capture in a picture the joy and power that these dogs show during the game. It would please me if it was possible to show that impression with this image. I have used one of the so-called mirrorless cameras, a Panasonic DMC GH3 with a lens 35-100mm f2, 8. The image was brightened only in the dark areas, and a little sharpened. Have a nice day!

  • This is a shot of my dog, Ashley, who was a rescue from the San Diego Humane Society. I shot it in the canyon behind my house in San Diego at sunset with my Canon 1D Mark IV and 300mm Prime lens. With that lens at that time of day, you don't need much post processing but I did sharpen and touched shadows in Lightroom.
