  • What a wonderful photograph and congratulation to the winner! The moody sky in the background combined with the bright pink colored flower in the foreground create a striking and wonderful photograph. Also having dark mountains (one seems to have snow on top) set far back, makes the photo more three dimensional. The composition with the large flower slightly off-centered gives the image a good and balanced feel.

  • Thank you so much for choosing my photo -- my first win! My name is Tracy Davis and I live in the southwest of the United States. Thistle is a family name, so I love photographing these unusual flowers when I can find them. This photo was taken with a point-and-shoot Panasonic Lumix camera while I was hiking through southern Croatia this last summer. I love this photo for the contrasting moods it shows with the dark skies in the background and the bright pink flowers front and center.

  • Beautifully executed black and white photograph of a flower placed in a vase. The flower and the shape of the round vase go so well together. The softness how light shapes and defines the vase, this is what makes this photo superb and to us!

  • Such delicate fluffy and white flowers and having a piece of wood across the stems, makes the observer look at least twice. The focal point and the narrow depth of field is a wonderful thing in this photo. It shows how time passes ...

  • In this image it is its mood which captures the jude's attention. Melting snow on top of a fern - backlight by the sun. Great photo!

  • My name is Mary Elizabeth Rawl, from Gilbert, SC and this is a real moonflower that opens evenings and dies the next day. It opens in a circular path and I shot a series of photos during the whole process that took about 15 minutes. I used a Canon Rebel XS with an 18-55 lens set on the sports setting for fast action with camera flash. Shot straight down over the flower. Only a little tweaking on the contrast in post processing. Thanks for the mark of excellence on this shot.

  • Almost like a plant growing under wather, the colors and the depth of field don't give away, where this plant grows. Vibrant contrast and great execution. Amazing image!

  • Sharon Mitchell, Kingsley Michigan. With all the amazing photos that were submitted to this contest,I am honored and humbled that one of mine was chosen. Thank You for taking the time to view and comment. This Red Dazzler was taken in a marsh just off the shores of Lake Michigan in Benzie county. This tiny gift of red caught my eye in a sea of reeds and Dragonflies. Camera: Cannon EOS 30D. Lens:EF-S 18-55mm. Editing was bringing the shadow level down and the Saturation up a hair.

  • This photograph has an elegant appearance. Nice to have a different point of view - an angle form the flower's side. Great colors and one simple focal point on a fresh and healthy looking flower. Lovely light as well.

  • Almost like an alien, sticking out its head from nowhere, this flower erects from water with a bit of a bend. Colors, as well as depth of field makes this special and different from so many. Thumbs up from the judge!

  • Amazing contrast and sharpness in this image. Wonderful execution. Nice touch, that there is a little flower growing from this cactus, which slightly breaks the symmetry of the composition. Beautiful!

  • Thank you! This photo is of a thistle I let grow in my garden in Hertfordshire. Leaving for work very early one summer morning I noticed the first flower opening and this unusual and seldom seen moment I shot with my Canon 500d and 55-250mm zoom lens and at f9 probably.
