  • Nyack, NY. I used a Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 lens on my Canon 50D and my 430EX flash to really freeze the motion of the bird in the air and to allow me to capture the moodiness of the grey clouds and the leafless trees. I actually was moving the camera as I took the picture. Shot at 11mm @ 1/250 and f/5.6 I threw the bread up and snapped this shot at the same time. • Ira Temchin, NYC This photo was shot on Pinehurst Avenue in Manhattan during a major heat spell in NYC this summer (7/22/11). It was shot with a Canon S90, which I use for street photography as it is less obvious (more candid shots) than my Nikon DSLR. I shot it in B&W (nostalgia setting) with the flash on.

  • Tasha Podewils from Dallas, TX. I took this with my Panasonic digital camera on top of Mount Bonnell in Austin, TX. The beautiful surroundings are so beautiful and I wanted the photo to reflect that.

  • A good example of a nicely composed black and white photo, working with light and shadow. It is almost abstract in its appearance. Just enough information to know what it is about.

  • My name is Suzanna, I used a cannon powershot SX20 IS, perfect for an amateur such as myself. This particular image is a favorite. It was taken at a local pumpkin patch in Boise Idaho. The owners turned a grain silo into a slide, which ended in a big vat of corn kernels. Fun photo reminding me of a fun day.

  • Dorann Weber, NJ.. This photo was taken with a Nikon D80 and it depicts my son who was then 3 and my husband. My son use to love wearing the gag glasses with attached large nose and mustache around the house. It always cracked us up since he looked a lot like his dad when he wore them! This image was a candid shot taken right before bedtime when my husband was reading a story to my son. http://www.betterphoto.com/Premium/Default.aspx?id=63591&mp=V2
