  • This is a rather unique photo in that it is empty to begin with, but then you starts seeing something. And from there it is like starting a film with your self in the role of the storyteller.

  • I shot the photo at Montrose Harbor in Chicago. It was very foggy and seeing the skyline ala impressionism made me want to capture the subtlety digitally. I wanted a sort of "gotcha" feeling. The more you look "inside" the photograph, the more you see. I was trying for an image high on feeling tone and low subject. Ambiguity is key. It is not immediately appealing. That's what I was intrigued by. I am a retired arts administrator/musician who has returned to photography after many years fallow. This was by design. My retirement years and pension are dedicated to putting me through fun! Camera: Canon T1i

  • This is simply a very well-executed photo that tells a story in colors, shapes and framed as a postcard.

  • It's a true achievement capturing the life and faces of adults in children. It's like looking back and seeing someone you know well in a photo, ad realize that already back when they were a child, they were destined to be the person they grew up to be. The stunning thing is that this is not just one but three children, and each is amazing.

  • This photo was taken at our in home studio, using a Nikon D3000 with basic lighting. There was very little post processing, just enough to set the contrast. Photo was taken by John Steinman of Steinman Photography in Lima, Ohio. You can find us on facebook.

  • Nice photograph shot against the sun. The light and the compositon does it, and then you discover the people in the background...

  • Photograph was taken with my Canon Rebel T1i EOS in Imperial Beach within my home in the San Diego, CA area. I happened to be walking down the beach with my partner when I started taking secret sneaky shots of this guitar player. Once my partner noticed I was falling behind taking quick photos, he encouraged me to ask this random guitarist to take his photograph and quit being sneaky...VERY worth it!!! Great honor to receive this acknowledgement! My name is Carina :) [email protected].

  • A photo showing an unusual friendship between a wild animal and a soulful human. A harmonic and restful image that shows us that friendship is possible between even the impossible match.

  • Just enough light to get the information that is needed in this photograph. Two people showing their feelings. How the dress is defined by light and shadow - truly beautiful. A minimalistic photograph which works so well.

  • This photograph has something like a scene out of Dr. Who. Maybe a stranded alien or just somebody taking it easy. It is beautifully composed with great light and shadow. Timeless.

  • The observer tries to figure this out, is it sleazy or are they just having a real good laugh. Or what might the story be. Great reflection in the table with an almost different person in the reflection. It makes you wonder.

  • This one doesn't have any people catching your attention, and so much more interesting is it that both judges stopped by this and wondered why. It has clearly interesting light and a very well-working composition. Great work.

  • There is some revolt in this photo, and the photographer focus the viewers attention with focus, movement and the light hitting the person.
