  • The light in this, and the composition that leaves so much room for imagination makes it a classic and the 'Premium Competition 2011 Q2' winner. There are more questions than answers in this picture and you can keep returning to it again and again, and it's still fresh with new layers.

  • The photo was taken in Yenne, Senegal not long ago. The story: Mr. Muscles wanted to pose for my camera and I happily obliged. He whipped off his shirt, his little brother got nervous, I clicked. It wasn't until after that I noticed the silhouette of the young lady in the background. The photo came together in an instant. My name is Aisha Coke and I am an avid (but not professional!) photographer. More of my work can be seen at aishacoke.com.

  • The composition of this image with frame in the frame with a man seemingly outside the frame offers a great composition and the light helps it. And when you study the image more and dig into the people and the rooms, another story may reveal itself.

  • Monia Tartarini currently resides in Milan. She considers herself a self-taught artist, always with a camera and a desire to speak through her photographs. This picture has taken in Colombia during her last reportage. She is always looking through her camera trying to find the natural expression of the people. She usually spends some time with them to understand better who they are and to know a little bit more about their life and culture. Have a look at her website: www.monia.it

  • This is a nice frozen moment, and you may notice that you as a viewer and the girl in the picture are both looking at the image with amazement.

  • Photographer: Heidi Yanulis Location: Forest Hills, NY Camera: Nikon D200 Lens: 135mm Exposure: 1/800 Aperture: f2.8 ISO: 200 While walking home from school with my children one day we came across a yard full of newly blossomed dandelions. The children joyfully filled the air with wishers. This is why I always have my camera with me.

  • We just happen to like this one for the composition, and then the surprise in discovering that the reflection is not the same - but the girl is.

  • This is just a very good idea that requires some discipline to accomplish. Apart from the whole setting is well-executed despited the weeks in between, there are two lovely details in that the season is changing outside, and that the last picture is the mother and child. Priceless for the mother, father and child, interesting for others to view.

  • A chance of a lifetime opportunity for me. Lovely model (Skye) with an awesome personality and attitude concerning the entire project! Black & white with baby in color. Well worth the months of involvement.

  • The composition and light is just right in this one, and somehow the thin net frames the picture and freezes the moment. Well done.

  • We like the atmosphere in this, the lonely big city when you return tired from work. You can almost hear the sounds and smell the food from the kitchens around.

  • Whatever the story is, this is a strong image in the way the person poses and maintain the utmost level of dignity in a situation and location where you are usually stripped of you dignity.

  • I made this image with a Leica M9 with a 50mm Summilux f/1.4 lens on March 4, 2011. I got a call that my friend Eric Werner was in hospice at the VA Hospital in Chicago. (He was a well known and noted Chicago photographer, who happened to be a photography mentor of mine...) Eric passed away on May 21, 2011... ten weeks after I made this image. I am humbled by the recognition and only wish that Eric had lived to see this. My name is Barry Mayo and I live in Stone Ridge, NY. [email protected]

  • This image makes you laugh or smile for the impossible chaos in it. From the perspective elevated high above it's funny to watch.
