This is a stunning image from the first moment you look at it, and we keep finding stories and details. The contrasts between the classroom and what is written on the board, the t-shirt and the location. So many interesting details in one photos that you can keep looking at it. Overall the image to us communicates hope, future and aesthetics with deep respect for the people in the image.

I am honored and still in disbelieve ... So many "winners" in this competition. This picture, "Kibera Rays", was taken in a "classroom" in Kibera, the second largest urban slum in Africa. I managed to visit the area while working for "Sarakasi Trust". The judges comment did strike me … "Overall the image to us communicates hope, future and aesthetics with deep respect for the people in the image". That's exactly what these people provide … hope and a future. I obvious managed to capture these emotions. Shot on a Fuji X100, sun rays were shining through a few holes in the (hot) tin roof, revealing the dust and providing the most important thing we need … "Light" ! I'd like to express my thanks to the I-SHOT-IT organisation, members of the jury, fellow photographers, Anne and last but not least, the Sarakasi team (Marion!) " Arts and Culture for a better world ! " You can find the "Kibera" photo-essay on my Blog. Luc "Velu" Vekemans Belgium
