Thanks to everyone who voted for my photo! This is my 1st win in this competition! I have shot hundreds of photos of lightning and this one has garnered more attention than any of my others. It has been featured on the National Weather Channel on TV, published in Outdoor Photographer magazine, and won 2nd place in the amateur division of the International Photographer's Association competition. I shot this near Lamesa, Texas with a Canon XSI on a tripod. The wind had blown this cloud into the area where the lightning was coming out of the cloud cover in the top, and struck at just the right time! The only post processing was cropping a little. Thanks! Jerry Cotten.

My name is Jerry Cotten from Lamesa Tx. This was shot near Lamesa with a Canon XSI on a tripod. The wind blew in the cloud in the middle and the lightning struck through it and backlit the cloud's edges. The National Weather Channel on TV featured my photo, won 2nd place in International Photographers contest, finalist in Nature's Best contest, and published in Outdoor Photographer magazine. Thanks for your votes!

My name is Jerry Cotten. I took this photo of lightning in west Texas near Lamesa, Tx. I was photographing strikes coming out of the cloud cover in the top of the photo when the wind blew the cloud in the middle across and captured this strike that went right through the center of it. I used a Canon XSI with a 18-270mm zoom lens (bulb setting) on a tripod. Thanks to everyone who voted for it!

My name is Jerry Cotten and I live in Lamesa, Tx. I was taking photos, near Lamesa, of the lightning strikes coming out of the cloud cover in top of the photo, and getting just so-so results. Then the wind blew this smaller cloud thru the middle of the scene and this strike went right thru the cloud! Taken with Canon XSI with Tamron zoom lens. The National Weather Channel featured my photo! Thanks to all who voted for it!
