This is a truly magnificent shot, packed with detail and drama. I would love to sit in this pasture chewing on a blade of grass and simply gaze at this view. The soft bad weather light has been perfectly seized, the sky beautifully filtered, recreating this saturated mountain atmosphere with masterly respect for such a beautiful scene. Just wow! A perfect winner. Great composition gives space and a harmonious feel to this image, a tripod and small aperture bring incredible depth of field and detail and a neutral density grad filter brings punch to the clouds, light to the foreground and plenty detail to the shadows. Well done, you have captured a beautiful landscape with technical skill and gentle, realistic post processing. Stunning.

This photo was taken at Alpe di Siusi in the Italian Dolomites during a photo workshop that I led with 8 photographers. The camera is Canon 1Ds mkIII and the lens Canon 24-70 f/2.8L. No filters used and the post processing was done in Lightroom 4 from a single exposure. My name is Hans Kruse and I organize photo workshops in Italy.
