Black-And-White Photo Competition 4 2017 : Entry Number 123

Judges Comment

Breathtaking photograph that plays with the perception of the world above and below the water. We admire the beautiful tonality, the perspective and overall composition that on one side explains what it is, yet keeps throwing our usual perception off. This is the winner of the I-SHOT-IT Black & White Competition. Congratulations!

Thank you so much to the judges first of all, Birgit Krippner and Thorsten Overgaard, my heart skipped a beat when I read the email heading... I follow this competition very closely and the calibre of work that is entered is outstanding, so to receive first prize in literally unbelievable ! it is inspiring to see so many photographers' work showcased in such a way. My image was taken with a Canon 5DSLR camera and a 16-35mm lens set to 16mm, with a polarising filter to help darken the sky. The camera is inside an Aquatech underwater housing with a dome port to enable the 'half in/half out' technique, which I love producing. It was initially shot in colour and RAW, then switched to black and white in photoshop. The picture was taken in a place called Aitutaki, Cook Islands, where the water is absolutely crystal clear. For more of those shots I have an Instagram account @alexcoppel. Again...Thank You I Shot It!!!!!! keep producing amazing photography everyone.
