City Competition 6 2016 - all cities! : Entry Number 37

We think the idea here to make a play with scale using the little Eifels was very creative and deserved recognition. The empty space on the bottom right creates an unsettled feeling – though not sure if it was intended does work with the scale play and clouds but in a more ominous way.

Thanks for the recognition for the shot. Here, I'd spent the best part of a day trying to get a novel view of the Eiffel Tower (harder than it sounds) when I chanced upon a souvenir vendor on a staircase and loved the haphazard positioning of his wares for a classic repeating composition. I used F2.8 for shallow depth of field to isolate the foreground and under-exposed slightly to optimise a lifeless sky. Black and white is my preferred choice for timeless street shots.
