Child Photo Competition 2015 No 4 : Entry Number 230

Judges Comment

An unusual surrounding for a 'child and beach' photo. But that is the reason why the whole photo is so special. Technically it is also well executed. One of the best pictures from this competition!

“Innocence: Normandy Beach” was captured with a Ricoh GR with a fixed 28mm lens at 1/800 sec; f/4.0; ISO 100. This photograph was taken below the cliffs of Normandy Beach, France, where some of the debris from the landing is still in place. Hence, the white “danger” sign in the background. Overall, it’s a site that evokes strong, sad emotions, especially when the sky and water seem so grey, even in color. What a pleasant surprise to find children playing on the beach that day, and any other day, having fun as if they didn’t know. With so many outstanding photographs submitted, it’s an honor to receive a Mark of Excellence award from the judge, Lisa Kutzelnig. Larry Kincaid, Maryland, USA
