Flower Photo Competition 4 2012 : Entry Number 54

Judges Comment

Capturing flowers in black and white can be a challenge, since color is an important aspect of flowers. This photo has great composition and a dynamic direction, how the petals inside the flower grow.

Every summer I grow Sunflowers in my back yard (Houston, TX). I am truly crazy about them. Their cycle of life from the seed it sprouts from to the seeds it produces is fascinating to experience first hand, and the birds and insects it attracts is magical as well. I have photographed them from every angle and since I am a huge fan of B&W, it was a natural direction for me. I am honored to have this photograph noticed by the judges, as it is truly one that makes me smile:) Dion Nelson
