Congratulation to Rosa Fiorenzo ( www.fiorenzorosa.it ) from Italy who has won $5,830.00 and a Leica M MONOCHROM body worth $8000.00. Portrait photos often work well when taken in familiar surroundings, rather than a studio. Without a studio, it can be hit and miss with getting the ideal lighting. In this photo it just feels like everything came together to make the perfect photo. If I gave this photo a name I think it would be, "Hungry Eyes".

Rosa Fiorenzo said, "The photo was taken at the end of a lunch at the birthday party of my two sisters. There was a moment of serenity and I noticed that my niece Joy was playing with the plate while sitting in his mother's arms ... without a thought I immediately took the camera and dropped to the level of the table and took the photo. The light from the window made the difference."

Congratulations to all of the winners and everyone who entered one of the 583 entries and to the judges Thorsten Overgaard and Birgit Krippner.

Bird Photo Competition 2 2016 Results

Morten Schiodt from Denmark has won $900.80. This is a bird photo unlike any other bird photo I have seen. It's shockingly violent, but full marks must be given to the photographer for capturing what must be a very rare event. When I saw the photo I was expecting it to be one of Mate Bence's photos. It's that good!

Congratulations to all of the winners and thank you for everyone who entered one of the 334 entries. And of course we must thank the judge Mike Atkinson, who took the time to study all of these photos and make sure no details are missed.

Congratulations to the winner from Czech Republic who has won $984.00. It's a super close-up portrait of a beautiful, red haired, freckly girl - or soon to be 'young lady'. Lighting is very important for good portrait shots. In this photo keeping direct sun light off the face, but using it to highlight the hair works well.

Thank you to everyone who entered one of the 242 entries, and thank you to the judge Lisa Alessandra Kutzelnig.
